Jhansi did not show much interest in gold ornaments in first thirty years of marriage. We did not have money to spare; only thing I remember buying is a pair of earrings for fifty dollars. When children started leaving home, she had money to spare from her earnings and started buying gold jewellery. By that time she was already using costume jewellery and did not find much difference in appearance except some costume jewellery caused allergies. She started giving the ornaments to grandchildren to play. Now some of them seem to be lost and it does not seem to make much difference except for a slight twinge about gold gone missing.
